Listen to the song "Everyone is a Saint". It starts off very simply, but by the end of the song, everything sounds perfectly rich and full. Amazing piece of musical art... or at least in my opinion.

Some people say I'm a no 'count. Others say I'm no good. But I'm just a nat'ral-born travelin' man, doin' what I think I should, O, yeah. Doin' what I think I should.
And I don't give a damn about a greenback dollar, spend it as fast as I can. For a wailin' song and a good guitar, the only things that I understand, poor boy, the only things that I understand.
When I was a little baby, my momma said, "Hey, son. Travel where you will and grow to be a man And sing what must be sung, poor boy. Sing what must be sung."
And I don't give a damn about a greenback dollar, spend it as fast as I can. For a wailin' song and a good guitar, the only things that I understand, poor boy, the only things that I understand.
Now that I'm a grown man, I've traveled here and there. I've learned that a bottle of brandy and a song, The only ones who ever care, poor boy, the only ones who ever care.
And I don't give a damn about a greenback dollar, spend it as fast as I can. For a wailin' song and a good guitar, the only things that I understand, poor boy, the only things that I understand.

I've seen this battle. I still prefer the DFD v. Tantrum battle. More creative. I'm not that fond of written battles though. It was okay while the writtens were good but have you watched grind time lately? I'm disgusted. I want back to the days of Jin on 106 and Park. On that remark:
Dude. DJ. I loved those videos. Hahaha. So awesome. I've never heard of any of those people.

I don't listen to country often. I literally can't remember the last time I did. It doesn't bother me... it just generally gets on my nerves. Buuut, I used to love Randy Travis when I was a child and I found him doing the song King of the Road with Josh Turner about a year ago. Seriously... Josh Turners voice is the sexiest thing in the entire world. Nothing beats a deep, manly voice. Oh my gosh. Haha. If any man came and sang to me like him I would go anywhere with him... sorry Coffee... ::)

King of the Dot: Kid Twist Grind Time: Dumbfoundead, Tantrum, Illmaculate, Dizazter (sp?), Okwerdz, Nocando, Franco (Franco is the best) Other: Jin.
After Jin, there are no real notables from 106 and Park I can remember. 106 and Park sucks now, anyway.

It's a sad day when you have to give someone a pep talk before listening to INXS. What is this world coming to? INXS was an AWESOME band! Great pick Maddog!!!
My pick is a little bit different. This song ALWAYS cheers me up. When my mother dies, I'll probably play this song and be just as happy as the day before. For some reason it just makes me smile every time (I also bounce around like a mad man, but that's neither here nor there). It is the theme song to Chris Hardwick's podcast The Nerdest Podcast and the song is all done in 8-bit. And it's AWESOME! Enjoy!
and a little old school cruisin' musak. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZXc39hT8t4#ws (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZXc39hT8t4#ws)
edit, i gotta throw this song in there, been bumpin it all summer on my 2 12"s. tree is slang for pot btw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcpAPsOr8kg#ws (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcpAPsOr8kg#ws)
Yeah, the genre i listen to varies with mah mood. im really musically open-minded, ill give anything a listen at least once.

Man I can't remember how old I was when this came out, all I know is when I was at school and couples having "songs" was the "in thing", everyone had this as "their song" :P So cheesy but the chicks dig K-Ci and JoJo. Great music for getting it on to 8)

Here's a great new one thats been playing on my local radio station. Its a band called AWOLNATION playing their song called "Sail". WRZX Indianapolis for the win!
Holy crap. Not what I expected at all, but DAMN I think I love this. Um.. One question though.. Why watch it in hi-def? Its just one picture. Bah, never mind that, what a TIGHT FRICKIN JAM!

It allows for higher audio fidelity, by using a higher bit rate. Glad you liked the song, Feed Me is D&B producer Spor's house and breaks alias. If you like this sort of think you should check out Spor as well. Cheers! :D

Yeah that tune is pretty sick. House-y type stuff ain't usually my thing but those slurred sawtooth bass-type sounds are awesome.

Another great song from the '80s. This song is really incredible. Kids, this is how music was made before everything became digitaly manipulated. Here's a quote from The Smiths' guitarist Johnny Marr about how the guitar track was produced:
"The vibrato sound is f**king incredible, and it took a long time. I put down the rhythm track on an Epiphone Casino through a Fender Twin Reverb without vibrato. Then we played the track back through four old Twins, one on each side. We had to keep all the amps vibrating in time to the track and each other, so we had to keep stopping and starting the track, recording it in 10-second bursts... I wish I could remember exactly how we did the slide part -- not writing it down is one of the banes of my life! We did it in three passes through a harmonizer, set to some weird interval, like a sixth. There was a different harmonization for each pass. For the line in harmonics, I retuned the guitar so that I could play it all at the 12th fret with natural harmonics. It's doubled several times."

Great pick Sandra! Album from the movie The Life Aquatic. It is a guy named Seu Jorge singing Bowie songs solo with an acoustic guitar. Hahaha, I was expecting a high pitched voice and hes like deep as hell. I was playing that in my car yesterday and my gf shouted out the exact same thing..I had to Gibbs slap her. :P I don't understand Portuguese but it sounds pretty tight.
I've listened to this song like 500 times today. Idk, I do that sometimes. I like a lot of genres of music but I also hate a lot of em too. Idk, I guess I'm well rounded.

Anyone who like industrial music should check this one out. The band is called How To Destroy Angels. It's Trent Reznor's new project, with his wife Mariqueen Maandig on vocals. Amazing stuff.
Briguy, Staind is my favorite band. Have you heard the new album? Great stuff.
Really? I was hoping I'd find someone who appreciated this type of music. :)
Actually, this thread reminded me of some this music. I haven't been able to catch up with some of these bands. I oughta do that. So the answer to that is no, but I'll make sure to. ;)

sorry...if some of the languaje of "My Way" is not very appropiate...but the this punk version is fun...
they were so drugged...I think all of them died very, very young, but one or two of them...
here Sid Vicious is with his girlfriend...he died from an overdose after (supposedly) murdering her... not very exemplary way of life... ::)
Eminem: My Name Is. Makes me laugh every single time I see it. A bit on the inappropriate side, but you already know that because, well, its Eminem. So funny to see him dressed like Bill Clinton and Marilyn Manson. This video is 12 years old already. Time flies.

This is a local band called State. The song: Everyone is a Saint. It starts kinda slow, so give it a sec before you quit listening. The chorus sounds amazing.

I think this Pharell remix is awesome...
from my point of view : the message is sh....21rst century chauvinism, comparing beautiful girls with cookies and sweets, the message is totally wrong, are we women toys, sweets or what the hell are we? is the first question I made myself the first time I watched that video.Once thing is worshipping beauty, and another is comparing us to ... The pictures of the video...dollar bills? what the hell is all that about??
I t´s a pity, that the idea is only good because it sells, and is the music which should be good enough.

I also listen to music which is on the other side of the spectrum with its diversity. Besides chroniX radio I also listen to SomaFM (http://somafm.com), and 108.pl Ambient (http://radio.108.pl:8006/ambient.ogg.m3u) | Relaxation (http://91.121.72.50:9106/listen.pls) | Meditation (http://radio.108.pl:8006/meditation.ogg.m3u), even though the 108.pl site is down the music stream is still up.

A song from the " Mother of punk ", an extremely excentric german singer, unique, with a voice of a opera singer, she prefered to be a punk singer...her punk music has nothing to do with Sex Pistols for example, and besides , she used to sing in german, her native languaje...It sounds weird german in songs. She tried to make her hits "international" singing in english, but idk why she is not as famous as other bands that always sang in english. Is mixture of electronic, pop, rock Idk how to define her style, too unique. From the 80´s.She can be vulgar, and femenine at the same time. She was very beautiful, but she put too much punk make up and stuff...xdd

In this song you can hear better the capacity she had for changing her voice as she sang. This is her (weird) version of a german classic song; "Zarah",you will notice better her "opera" voice, specially towards the end of the song.

Nero: Promises In the theme of Equilibrium, this video is set in a fictitious Totalitarian Dystopia. Movies and songs on this subject always strike a chord with me. Good video.
The Cranberries: Zombie Great song. Most people would probably interpret this as a blanket statement against any kind of war. I believe rather, that this song is a statement against humanities habitual existence. We are zombies. Always doing, never seeing, never thinking. And the results are often catastrophic. Of course, Dolores' perspective is largely based on the 1916 Irish/English conflict.
Ciara: 1, 2 Step On the lighter side, this is a fun old song by one of the best female vocalists/dancers, and features another amazing artist.

Wow, keep remembering great songs. Gonna stick with the lovely ladies today.
Natalie Merchant: Carnival One of the most iconic vocalists of our time, Natalie expresses our sad reality: everyone is so fake. Life and love... our culture has put up a brilliant facade, and we've all been taken by the smoke and mirrors. We've been blind.
Alanis Morissette: Princes Familiar I know, I know. You're probably wondering why I'm listening to songs like these. But this one's good, and its a message that seems to be lost in our society. Fathers are the most important presence in the lives of their daughters. Girls need to grow up with the expectation of being treated with love and respect. How will girls even know what to look for if they don't see it first in their father?
Sarah McLachlan: Building a Mystery Everyone has insecurities and fears. Everyone is searching for something real. But we don't like to admit it. In this song, Sarah looks at someone she loves, and pulls all the BS away from him. She removes the suit of armor, revealing the perfect, mysterious quiet desperation below.

I went back a little more than a year in this thread to verify this video was not already posted.
I believe Marquese Scott's dancing fame started from this video. He has made other videos before, but it was this one that received the most attention. It was not the music, but his dancing that got him noticed. This video received over five million views the first week it was posted on YouTube. Almost a year later, and it has exceeded 60 million.
This is what I feel like in game at times... I believe it is called lag. I did not know it could be experienced in the real world... j/k he is an excellent dancer.

We have too many kings and too many fools Everyone yells “not dead”, i say “**** off” Mumij can’t be understood – is he a fool, is he a king? No easy role that mumij's got! “bi” isn’t two, “bi” is zero. “chaif” is no fun, it is "oh-so-painful" A strange city is leningrad Was the cultural capital, and now it's nothing but profanity.
Chorus: They call me shnur, they call me shnur. I will come to you in your dreams, mon ami. With cripples, and uglies, With junkies, mon amour.
“ddt” – that used to be pesticide. It's been stinking for so long that my nose hurts. “aquarium” – is the place with snakes and reptiles, Everyone is afraid to watch – and these are only too happy. Oh! someone’s heart has stopped again... New people? don't they have enough old ones? It’s really hard to be a small horse, I didn’t try it, but they say it’s possible.
Chorus: They call me shnur, they call me shnur. I will come to you in your dreams, mon ami. With cripples, and uglies, With junkies, mon amour.
The “time machine” is stuck in its time, And they can’t rid of that burden. “dances minus” or “dances plus” I like neither whiners nor blues. Rap used to be total ****, But now i start the job here. The song is over, soon is the finish, When i shove it up – no ****ing way you’ll get it out!”

Hey rondonboy,
It appears that another K-pop video has been released. The tune is somewhat catchy, which is the purpose of it. However, the best song going around is subjective to the opinion of the individual listening to it. I would rather listen to dubstep.net (http://www.dubstep.net/) for similar music, but if it is harder music I am looking for, I usually go to chronixradio.com (http://www.chronixradio.com/). Then there is the meditative music that I also listen to, it all depends on my mood...
If one is looking for free music to listen to or download, go check out these sites. SoundCloud - Share Your Sounds (http://soundcloud.com) Digitally Imported – Addictive Electronic Music 24/7 (http://www.di.fm/) Monkey Radio: Back once again! Grooving. Sexy. Beats. I know there is many more stations out there to listen to, or to download music, but this is the list I have in my bookmarks. Maybe these will help someone find something they were looking for.
Take care, and let the music speak to you.

Back in the days of metal this was the mosh pit madness. Slayer was a big favorite, right before grunge and right before Metalica went from a metal band to a near-clam rock bank. Other bands like Motley Crue made the transformation from heavy medal to clam rock (compare the Shout at the Devil album with the introduction of their fifth album, Dr. Feelgood).
Manowar was a diehard metal band with powerful songs such as the messages in the song "Hail and Kill":
Rip their flesh Burn their hearts Stab them in the eyes Rape their women as they cry Kill their servants Burn their homes Till there's no blood left to spill Hail and Kill
Power and dominion are taken by the will By divine right hail and kill

i actually hate most dubstep. i have made better songs in fruity loops in less than 20 minutes before.....there are a handful of decent ones though.....but most suck....its like crunk rap....making repetitive beats that are catchy and provide neither and complicated instrumentals nor lyrical value....granted dubstep i realize is not about the lyrics

x Funny thing is I've been using FL Studio or 2 years + 2 years (professionally) + 1 year of Cubase/Logic and to make a quality wobble (with EQs, distortions, reverb, delay etc) it takes me a solid 30 miniutes - 3 hours (Depending on the complexity of the wobble) and the drums will take me at least 30 miniutes to assemble the drums in the sequancer (because the kicks usually have 3 layers and those 3 individual layers are split into 3 parts (Low pass, midrange, High pass) and if you we're to use VSTs not samples it would take even more layers (such as Bassism) you would not only need to layer (+EQ, Distort etc) you will need to control all the oscalators to sines and white noises which takes around 20 minutes per snare and kick (less for hi hats) Composing uplifters can take 45 minutes to hours if you make a quality one that makes use of all instruments (NO BANDPASS FILTERS CHEATING) and actually support a strong drop (took me 2 hours once!) and the intro and outro takes a long time to assemble (usually off sliced patterns)(another 1 - 2 hours) oh and don't get me started on the composing of a song! Everything must be composed in a certain way that is suitable for the human ear (eg. a build up MUST BE a multiple of 4.) There's so much more to touch on like the mastering parts, the way the bridges will enhance the drops the LFO, vocal slicing (EXTREMELY DIFFICULT), Vocoding etc. Rap is just a drum beat (natural sounding) so samples do not need to be processed AT ALL. The hard parts of rap is the lyrics which I find an individual art on its own. Dubstep has lyrics to, but has to be sliced and layered, this takes just as much skill and time to write and rap the lyrics out. Every genre has its own process, but none contrasting to high. Dubstep is art and so is rap hardstyle, house etc. ;)

some will argue justin beiber is art....and one could argue how long it takes for him...or is it her? to make music.
the "20 minutes" was an exaggeration. but when it all boils down, to make the average dub step takes WAY less time to make than other type of music, and creates a music thats sub par by comparison.
i will have to dig up some of my old bands music. i for one have always been a fan of music with actual instruments to make a beat. but personal preference there.
this is the kinda music i like. very little digitalization to it. most of the changes in sound were aquired with foot pedals. i got to meet them a couple years ago while actually on leave from iraq. great guys and alot of great songs.

No no let me tell you something electronic music production is just as hard as making rap/rock if not more. When I first started out with the program I thought I could make Dubstep/rap/rock in 20 minutes too, but the mastering was horrible I used other peoples samples, I even didn't bother about the clashing frequancys which are VERY noticeable on club speakers. Making tracks for yourself is one thing, but when you have to satisfy the world or even a club it comes to a WHOLE DIFFERENT level. You CANNOT use samples you MUST make your own melodies YOU MUST construct your own wobbles on things like Massive. As much as I hate to say it rap is a fairly simple drumbeat, but the real time is involved in the vocals which I believe takes an equal if not less time to construct a Dubstep song. To make 1 good wobble it takes around 20 minutes + a lot more longer to add all the VSTs.

too bad the majority of dubstep doesnt do all that. so actually take the time which is why i said not all is bad, just most. like any brand of music there are always those that take as many shortcuts as possible to produce a sound thats good enough for the idiot masses. you can pull up alot of current dubstep and find plenty of samples in them. you may not realize they are samples right off the bat but they are. its all a matter of skill on how you blend them.

On that note, here is another mind blowing music video.

Individuals like this are the reason I started to listen to dubstep.
To dance to the sounds that is made is amazing.... If moving to sound is considered dancing, then that is what they are doing. Myself, I can do exactly what they are doing the first fifteen seconds of the video. ;)

This story arc is a great side step from the main action.
All the episodes included are hilarious and well made.
i always did like one peice. i remember during a deployment i got the series, like episode 1-300 or something like that. this was all subbed as maybe only the first 20 episodes were dubbed at this point. Its funny to see just how many episodes were dropped from being subbed.

Anime that contains a lot of filler really pisses me off. Eureka Seven got bad in there cause I hate all the dialogue I just want to see fights. Eureka Seven Ao was pretty good.
Watched Tenchi Muyo lately the concepts were pretty cool in it multidimensional beings and whatnot. Too much love **** though.
Afro Samurai Spawn the animated series HBO FLCL Gundam Wing Dante's Inferno Animated film
Can't think of anymore good animes atm.

From fireflyfans.net (http://fireflyfans.net/) one can find that the signal has never stopped. Click FIRECASTS and then The Signal. Here is their first episode.
You can navigate to the recent episodes of season nine to hear current podcasts. Can't stop the signal.
Oh, and one more thing is this video I stumbled upon.
Firefly Online is a social role playing game (RPG) based on Firefly, Joss Whedon’s cult-hit television series. Firefly Online (FFO) is currently in development for iOS and Android, and may expand to include additional platforms.
In Firefly Online, players assume the role of a ship captain as they hire a crew and seek out adventures, all the while trading with and competing against the millions of other players to try to survive in the Verse: find a crew, find a job, keep flying.
FFO provides a variety of gameplay activities and systems so that players can fully experience life in the Verse.
Assume the role of a ship captain - create a crew and customize a ship Aim to misbehave in space and planet-side adventures Cross-platform player experience across devices (pick-up and play from anywhere) Unique social features connecting Firefly fans Create a shiny ship and explore the Verse

Some may have remembered Michael Winslow from Police Academy
But this is supposed to be a music thread, so here he is with an impression of "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page.

Lyrics start like this, but I will not spoil it for you.
Quote
Hello
Who are you? I'm an angel
What's your name?
Turn down the volume, before pushing play, the sound is louder than expected.

Wow,
After seeing RedRum's post I realized that I still have a bunch of cassettes for some reason, I have nothing that plays cassettes any longer. One just happens to be The Beach Boys "Endless Summer" which both those songs appeared.
Thanks for the memories.

My music taste are weird and varied, but I mostly prefer classical/orchestrated music. These pieces come from a GameCube game called Kirby Air Ride, which is a game I love and is absolute fun mayhem (At least city trial mode) with 2 or more people.

Stop chasing your music across different machines, services and websites. It's time to take the work out of "play". If the song you want to listen to is in your local library, it just plays. If the song is on a remote machine, it just plays. If the song is on the web, or available from your subscription service, it just plays. By abstracting a piece of content's metadata from its file location, users can easily share playlists, listening history and more.
It's sort of like Wonka Vision, TOMAHAWK (http://www.tomahawk-player.org/) will reassemble it on the other side. OK, maybe that's not a good analogy... but it's just as delicious.
Open source never sounded so good. :D
