Title: Urt 4.1 Support Ending

1up is preparing to make a complete move to Urban Terror 4.2. In order to do this we must terminate 4.1 and 4.1.1 servers.

1up will terminate support for Urban Terror 4.1 and 4.1.1.

We will take this action sometime between the following dates: June 30, 2013 - July 4, 2013.

Once terminated, 1up will make best efforts to provide gametypes for 4.2 that mimic those people enjoyed here in 4.1. and 4.1.1.

We have to be able to take that next step but we will never take that next step until we stop supporting the older version of the game

I'd love to, Just usually have stuff going on @ 9:00 but I will whenever the opportunity arises. I played some Super TS today. Hard going back to 4.1 although i rarely game at all anymore.

I'm looking to find time again.

What happens is that 4.2 is getting more supporters but there will still be a lot of people playing 4.1 because they like it very much and think 4.2 is Bad even though they haven't even tried 4.2.

It might seem dead to you since you are not playing it, EPOC16, but there are still many players that have had good times with it and that will keep playing it.

there will be no game anytime like urban terror : the jumps the maps everything,you will never find a fun server like super ts in any type of game,the game isn't dead,the people that don't play at none 1up servers says so.
though I support moving to 4.2

I think we need to be positive about this. Most people do not like change, but we are in a tight spot because player participation is dwindling at an alarming rate for Urt. We need to set up a 4.2 Super TS, Fun Server and then convert other servers into useful Steam games. FtW is uncertain at this time (they took their site down) and rather than crash and burn with the game, I will try to encourage 4.2 advancement. We have sunk almost $10,000 into Urt development over the past (roughly) 5 years. That figure does not even include the costs of servers paid each month (dedicated box and multiple game hosting accounts). Let us try to make something good out of the destruction of 4.1 and 4.1.1, rather than being consumed by it. And so we push forward with a firm resolve to stay the course by promoting and converting to 4.2.

It might seem dead to you since you are not playing it, EPOC16, but there are still many players that have had good times with it and that will keep playing it.

at any given time you have roughly 300-400 players in the game. Naturally there is some fluctuation because it is clearly more popular overseas than in the US. When you look at what the numbers USED to be, you will realize. on average the game looses 100-400 players. At best, you saw 1000-4000 players on at any given time (back in around 2000) when the quake engine was at its prime. these days UrT is an empty shell of a game compared to what it used to be. The game has a loyal playerbase. These are the people however who enjoy lower end games that you can play on any computer, and dont mind the quake engines horrible hit engine.....or should i just say out dated....

I dont have to google the numbers, even though i did.....just looking at this clan alone. on average we get 10-15 players for practice....and how many members do we have? I can find players just within the clan to play another game much easier than UrT....


But in the end, play what you find is fun. If you find a 13 year old game fun, then play it.

Sander, if i dont play it, how come i am never last in the practices? i play enough to  be competitive enough in practice.....besides, i like FPS games whos hit recognition and weapons dmg/spread is realistic.....though the jumping around can be fun.  Also, 24/7 servers mean nothing if no one is in them. 95% of the servers usually have no one, or maybe 1 or 2 people in them at any time. only maybe 10-15 servers have any real activity. Even thats touch and go.

not that this is a hate post....more than i guess i realize more than some that UrT is basically dead. A shell of its former self and will finally die off soon enough.

I've never had an issue with hits in any Quake or Quake based mod except Urt.. You've made an enemy.

Back on topic now.

I hated 4.2 until the recent patches. I feel for the 4.1 lovers because I had the same opinion back when 4.2 first released.

I for one will help populate the 4.2s when they roll out.

I am with both red rum and cuttyflam. Also, dynasty the hits are also different, I have currently played some 4.2 today. I guess melo would also agree with me on this one too

Well all I know, is that I can go from playing 4.1 to 4.2 and still get the same accuracy and everything.

Maybe I just don't notice the change cause I'm so pro.  >:D

the quake engine was fine back in the day, but with advancements as they are now, its totally out dated..... i always noticed the quake hits being off slightly, UrT being the worst of the mods, but all of them using the engine have had a bit of a downfall in that. Though when quake first came out it was the ****.

Well if it WAS the same game why would they release 4.2? The reason they RELEASED 4.2 is to make a better game otherwise why would they release it at all? It would be a waste of their time if they just made the same game. Why keep the same copy of a game on your computer?! Seriously you don't need to point out that they're two seperate games. We get it. 4.2 is in general, better than 4.1.

Reminds me of when America's Army (http://www.americasarmy.com/) in 04 July 2002 started out as a recruiting tool to show civilians of a virtual soldier experience.



As you can see, the game changed drastically from version 2.8 to 3.0, and was basically a different game with a completely different gaming engine.  I stopped playing it after version 2.5 since it no longer supported other operating systems.  From version 1.0 to 2.5 all operating systems were supported, and played great on them.  There was even talk of how there was better framerates for the non Windows versions; Linux, Mac, and BSD.  Soon afterwards it became only Windows based.

Yes, it does suck when a version becomes a completely different game; it is progress.  Deal with it, or stay at the same version.  If you do not move forward, you will be left behind.  I left America's Army because it left me behind, but I still enjoyed it.  It is the game that was the most realistic to me as for fps gaming is concerned, however I have been playing Arctic Combat which reminds me of what America's Army was like when I left it.  I am sure that the military has expanded America's Army further than anything on the market, and for free.  You will get to go through basic training, some combat lifesavers course, escape and evasion, and other military training.  It is of course a very simplistic condensed version.  An example is the combat lifesaver course; A forty hour course you can complete in fifteen minutes in the game.  It only gives you a taste of how the military trains and how to work as a team.  I am not trying to advertise the game, but I would suggest anyone that likes FPS games to download it and check it out; it is free.

Well I slightly went off topic, but was trying to get my point across of games change, and one would just need to go with the flow, or be left behind.  It is not a threat, but just a fact that everything changes, and we must all move forward.

I am going to make sure we have a 4.2 TS (enhanced a tiny bit with Stamina features, so sort-of like a hybrid of Super TS), a 4.2 Fun TDM, at least one 4.2 Jump server, a 4.2 FtW and a 4.2 Chronic.

wow... it is a shame :(

problem is from what i was hearing, the amount of time and money it would be to create it for 4.2 would be insain. over 100 hours worth of coding, and the bill on that would add up very quickly.
