Hello American Football!
« on: February 13, 2014, 02:29:55 PM »
After watching the Super Bowl, wat was great.
I was sold... One guy in my platoon plays AF(American Football) And he asked me if I wanted to play aswell?
But since I live in Belgium, and this sport is like non-existed (like 9 teams over the whole country)
I wanted to try and play it. So yesterday I did my 1st practise. Waw, I loved it, I played as a WideReceiver and catched some good balls.
This year there will be a National Team build up. And I want to be part of it! So the reason I made this topic, is to ask you guys if you got some tips, tricks helpfull things for me? So I can improve myself.
There are also 5 American players in my team. (Army guys from an american base here in Belgium) and once I heard that accent I loved those guys.
Some info about our team: Limburg Shotguns (> Limburg stands for the state in Belgium I live in.)
Created in 2008
Colors: Yellow-Green like the Green Bay Packers
Also check out our site:  http://shotgunfootball.be/

Hope to hear from you guys!
V.

Thanks man, appreciate it! I'm training on my hands now. Trying to make that triangle shape. One thing I need to learn 2 is to keep my head up. Or it will be a nasty injury... :/

The only tip I don't see there is:

Be AWARE! You must have a knowledge of who has the ball, who you're guarding/blocking/etc.

Have fun with it!

I was a running back and Middle Linebacker, I din't play wide reciever, but a-lot of the concepts are the same. Learn your routes and those around you, practice footwork and cuts (route running), work with your QB for timing, and to understand hot routes based off of the coverage in front of you. American football is the best, how many other sports do you get to go full speed and crush someone. Best of luck to you, and have fun playing American football.
Strive to be the best not just to survive

Here's a video of my 1st game ever American Football.
I'm number 10 Cornerback, so I can understand the game better. They will now put me as a wide reciever.

I don't know if you've ever played rugby, but many of the techniques carry over, such as tackling low, being aware of your foot movement, using your center of mass for better hitting and juking, always supporting the ball carrier, etc. Pretty much anything you can use in rugby can also be applied to American Football. The strategies and tactics are totally different but the techniques are very similar.

I'm more of a rugby guy myself, but every time I have played American football that kind of stuff has served me well.
