G.U.N. maps [need 3ds blender]
« Reply #30 on: March 06, 2012, 08:13:46 PM »
In Google Sketchup convert it to an .3ds
In Blender import it, and export as .map or .ase
In GTKRadiant open/import it.

If you dont feel like downloading Blender you can send your .3ds to me.

We'll the Blender does not import the .3ds for some reason, so I'll send you the .3ds file of a model I want to use.

To be able to create maps for urban terror, one or more of the following must happen.

1. Figure out how to make sketch-up files valid .3ds files to import to blender.

2. Organize a map-making team that knows how to use GtkRadiant to create maps for use. - team to be given credit.

3. Find some other way to make urban terror maps - less likely.

Just do what other people who map do:  learn how to use GtkRadiant and make your own map. Start off slow by first learning how to make your first room with a light and a spawn entity in it.
That should take you about 15 to 20 minutes of your life. From that point forward you either start doing things one thing at a time or you give up. Before you decide to make a map first draw some type of sketch to show what you want your map to look like as an outline. If you have no start and end plan, then you will probably never finish your map.
Good luck. There are plenty of simple map tutorials. Do not just try to get it done. Learn from what Yoda says:

Thanks to a contact.

Was finally able to get Blender to import the sketch-up file as a .dae file...Now all we have to do is find out how to export it to GtkRadiant.

1. First you import the .skp file to google earth - in sketchup just click on the "Preview Model in Google Earth" button located next to the "Get Models..." button.
2. In google earth, save the location, then go to google earth's library and that is where the .dae file of the model (or whatever) is.
3. Now you import that .dae file into blender.

- and thats where we are at right now...

GTKRadiant - Trying to use it makes me wish that they had a simpler program available.

there is, it's called GTKRadiant. i wouldn't use anything else as GTKRadiant isn't actually that hard to use, just takes practice :)

We just need GTKRadiant to import/open a converted file & we'll be set.
