Title: 1up Desktop Gadget/Widget Windows Beta Test
Post by: Pyrite[1up] on March 06, 2011, 07:26:47 AM
Flux41[1up] has developed a new desktop gadget/widget to monitor 1up servers. It sits on your desktop all day, is automatically refreshes our 1up server list, along with player information for each server. You can click on each server to see who is on the server, and also a Join button launches Urban Terror and takes you into the server.

This program uses Adobe AIR technology, and will run on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPhone. For now, this is our first beta test, and for Windows only (with the others to follow shortly).

Before installing this, you need to have Adobe AIR installed. AIR is similar to the Flash plugin we all have. Just visit http://get.adobe.com/air/ (http://get.adobe.com/air/) and get it for your system. Next, download/install the 1up Server Monitor, get it here (http://1upmodrcon.googlecode.com/svn-history/r226/trunk/1upServerMonitor/natives/1upServerMonitor.exe).

Please post bug reports or problems in this thread.

LoL @ Cutty. EddieLee already tested this on Linux, see this thread (http://www.1upclan.info/forum/index.php?topic=7278.0).

Before we were going to distribute this as an ".air" file, the same file would be run on each OS the same. Now we are going to make separate binaries for each OS (exe for Windows, dmg for MacOSX, sh for Linux, apk for Android etc).

I think I have found this first bug (http://screencast.com/t/CruYHj8F7HA4) today, it is so minor, not sure it is worth fixing. Has to do with Windows 7 feature of maximizing windows.

Btw, Shadow asked a good question. You do not need the Windows Sidebar to use this. This is an independent application, therefore the Sidebar that comes with Vista/7 is not required, and this should run fine on XP.

I just found bug #2 on Windows 7, again, probably not worth fixing, but just to document it:

When you can see the players in the game, I'd like to be able to click on that player name and view the current in-game stats and be able to see their overall stats retrieved from the 1up stat page.

If any of you (Ron, Tesla, Zhalix, Sniper, etc) have any previous alpha versions installed, you will need to un-install them first via Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel. Secondly, you have to delete the Program Files folder for 1up Server Monitor, otherwise, the Installer posted above will complain about the application already being installed.

Hopefully the linux version will be out soon too, i dont get any 1up servers in my master server list, nor any of my usual servers for that matter, i have to manually add em to my favorites and even then i keep getting the bug that shows ips only and/or no servers at all -_-, i try the "cl_master "master.server.info" command and it says "cl_master" command doestn exists -_- hopefully this gadget will server as a workaround to the hideus UrT server menu -_-, specially when adding our own servers works.

In the old days when UrT was a mod for Quake3, you could delete a servercache.dat file or something like that to reset that. For you, if it still works like that, it would be in ~/.q3a/.

Also, you can always connect to any 1up server via its friendly name:

/connect fun.1upclan.info
/connect superts.1upclan.info
/connect superprivate.1upclan.info
/connect zombie.1upclan.info

etc

You might also try adding master.urbanterror.net to your /etc/hosts file (ping it to get the IP). It is a DNS pool that resolves to fs1.urbanterror.info and fs2.urbanterror.info.

I really like this gadget. A very nice item.

Although this is not a bug, I noticed that when I point at the gadget icon in my lower right window (next to the clock) and double click the icon the gadget does not come forward in front of other windows. The only option is "exit".

Ubuntu Linux Version can now be found here (http://1upmodrcon.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/1upServerMonitor/natives/1upServerMonitor.deb).

Tested on Ubuntu 10.10 32Bit.

If you have trouble with a bunch of black around the edge of the window i would suggest either use a compositing manager such as Compiz or just to go to the settings window and set "Linux Effects" to "Disable."

I dig it, its very nice.

As for feature ideas.  What about adding a way to start game tracker/xfire/vent when joining a server?

To disable Compiz on Ubuntu go into your console and type: metacity --replace

I should clarify... For Ubuntu, You NEED a compositing manager enabled (Compiz/Compiz Fusion is enabled by default in Ubuntu). If you don't want to run a compositing manager for some reason, you can go into the settings of the Server Monitor and set the Linux Effects to "disable"

THANK YOU! I hate Compiz Fusion. So glad you put an extra setting in there. You rock!

flux, when getstatus returns a blank for player name, you need to replace it with "UnnamedPlayer", which is what it sets it to when they set their name to nothing, however, the server sends nothing, but in-game they show up as "UnnamedPlayer", so the widget should do the same.

Thanks.

installed adobe air, then 1up server monitor, then under options pasted in default install location
[i'm running windows 7]
C:\Program Files (x86)\UrbanTerror
then set refresh to 10secs
NOTHING! have i done something wrong? i think i will reboot, maybe adobe air won't work until a reboot?

I feel ya.  It seems win 7 has some problem with the desktop gadget.  I am not a programer, nor do I know what the problem is.  The work around is to install an older version of adobe air.

This is adobe2.6.  First uninstall any version of adobe air you have then install this.  Do not update adobe air.

Thanks Turban, uninstalling air and reinstalling older version,,, u da man!  ;)

[edit] still not working...... grrrr! [gunna reboot] reboot didn't help! aaacckkk!

when i click 'browse' button to search for urban terror location nothing happens, the address field suddenly pops up into view and i have to manually 'paste' urban terror location in, but then what do i click after that? i click the big green arrow pointing back but that doesn't seem right to me, after i click it the address field disappears as if it was input properly, but then when i click browse again the location i pasted in is blank... ideas?!? [thanks in advance]  ;)

Interesting problem.  I can't change the location in my setting either.  I recall the install process asked for your urbanterror location, perhaps try a reinstall of the gadget.  Also, Ron made some quick links for URT that are pretty sweet.

ya i've been using ron's links, i just open urban terror, hit ~ for console and use the up/down arrow for the server i want that i typed [pasted lolz] in @ an earlier time, it's faster than clicking start urban terror, then fav's then scrolling to the server you want!  ;)
i only have 3 of your servers in that list and r_shownormals 0 and 1, and finally timescale 0.5  ;)

so my console list looks kinda like this;

/connect 208.43.15.85
/connect 208.43.15.202
/connect 208.43.15.85
/r_shownormals 0
/r_shownormals 1
/timescale 0.5

but i really liked the desktop widget thingy, was hoping i could get an even faster way to start game/join 1up server!  ;)
so i'll try that option, sounds like it might work, thanks for your help turban!
