Can someone please help
« on: March 18, 2014, 06:52:26 PM »
So here's the problem. Opened my MacBook Pro today and noticed that whenever it loaded up a video it would be extremely slow so I decided to run the software update for it. Well after that I restarted my macbook and tried to open my safari and no matter how many times I ran it would say safari quit unexpectedly. So I decided to do something which was reset safari in safe mode so it would work. Well sadly safari wouldn't even open up in safe mode so I decided once again to restart my laptop. Now my laptop is stuck on the apple logo and would not load up

Sounds to me like some of your OS files got corrupted. If you hold the ⌘ and  R keys down while it's starting up, it should bring up some nice menus, from which you can do things like connect to WiFi and re-install your OS. Since Apple is retarded, you must be connected to the Internet in order to re-install. From there, just follow the prompts on your screen to complete the installation. [source: a brief jaunt into the Apple Support site] I would *highly* recommend that prior to doing this, you pull your HD out and hook it up to another computer (in safe mode) and back up your important files to a different drive.

Otherwise if that doesn't work, you should replace your HD like Ratt said. Beyond that I can't be of much help since I've never actually owned a Mac.

http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search&product=&q=reinstall%20os&src=support_site.kbase.search.searchresults has some information if you want it.

You could try something else for PowerPC's if you already made a back up of your data.
There were fourteen different distributions available when I made this search.

Hell, even Linus Torvalds loves his Macbook Air.  The question I would have is; Does he still use openSUSE, or has he installed another Linux distribution?

Computers do not have problems, they have users

Not if you wiped your drive. Windows installs will put all the old stuff into a folder called Windows.old, but I don't think Apple has anything like that.

There are ways to recapture old data that has been erased, but it's super time-consuming and expensive. I had a Comp Sci major friend a few years back that did it for me for free, and what he had was basically a thing that would crawl through all the data on the drive byte by byte and look for data clusters that seemed to be some sort of recognizable file type and then dumped it all into another directory. The process took a few days to complete, and then I had a massive folder filled with everything I had ever put on the computer, none of it named or organized. In the end, I ended up just trashing the whole file dump because it was much faster to just re-install everything than it would have been to sift through all that garbage.

Your best bet is just download everything all over again, like you would if you had nuked your old machine entirely and got a whole separate system. It sucks, but them's the brakes.
