Heres some info about the upcoming version of urban terror:

Thirty maps including many old favourites like Docks, Ricochet and Revolution are being updated for 4.2. Dragonne and QueenBee are working hard on their maps. The player skins have been updated and a public test was conducted to determine the ones that suited the majority of gamers. The skins are designed to be seen due to the speed of the game. The unzoom on the SR8 has been changed so it does not unzoom when legs are hit and possibly the threshold will be changed. New grenade and blood effects. Armbands now show team colour for enemies no matter how they are set. Team mates' individual colours will continue to be shown in game and on the hud. You now have to crouch to pick up a weapon; no more gathering of weapons you don't want. Buga and exploits are being looked at and fixed.  Last Man Standing has been returned to the game after many years. It's Free For All without respawn. Very fun. Jump Training is designed to help teach gamers how to jump in Urban Terror. This gametype will work on maps specifically designed for jumping or regular gameplay maps. The mapper will be able to add goals and trace the jump routes to show gamers how to do them. That's it for now. We will keep you posted as development continues.

Just wanted you to know what is coming up, and perhaps we can discuss what we would like too see changed, and why.
For example i think it would be a good idea to make the g36 less powerfull considering the fact that it has a scope AND is an automatic rifle. What do you guys think?

I think this will be great! But the only problems are, will everyone be playing 4.2? Will we be able to recognize each other non 1up? Will 1up be 4.2?

I dont see any problems in there, wel all have downloaded 4.1, downloading 4.2 will take you probably less than 30 minutes, I dont think anyone in 1up will give their clan up for just a simple download lol

ya i figured but just hoping that ppl will continue to play 4.2 and renovate somethings so it will be a 4.2 clan too...also will we still play 4.1? in case 4.2 is not as good yet?

I am working on recoding some of the custom maps and fixing leaks so I can generate quality aas files. Downloading a new mod sounds great, but I do not like the passport system because I understand that we have to give our rcon server pass out to admin of the passport (master) server. I am a bit skeptical on this, but I will wait to reserve my judgment on this issue until after I have looked at the 4.2 pk3 files and digested the changes first hand. Still though, I want to acknowledge the hard work that the development team has put in on this new mod. We are all waiting on it. Bot support just might be inside as well.

maybe its not, after all its just a gun that can be chosen and falls under the same category as the lr m4 and ak, perhaps its already made more fair cause the g36 spreads more when shooting unzoomed

Let's see, a few things I'd like to see,

-A way to mute radio spammers (unless the current mute works, I don't think it does?)
-Fix the bugs with Referees (I think they could be very useful to many clans in policing servers)
-An additional item or two, not sure what but I think it would be possible.
-A new sidearm, something between the DE and Berretta.
-Maybe the the abillity to enter the prone position... I think this could be very valuable for snipers
-Auto-kick for too many suicides (same as auto-kick for tk)

That's all I can think of for now but I'm sure there's more.

That would be great if they would fix the REF function. Then 1up could go back to a system of admins and REFS, which would resolve many little server problems.

Dude if you could enter prone position. I would just have a rape-fest. It's nearly impossible to hit something that small which is why real snipers use it.

Just find a nice spot lie down and gun noobs down as they run around the corner. That's my kinda day.

I agree with jpx though, that's just not the style of game that UrT is.  UrT is a fast paced shooter, and sniping is not fast paced.  There are definitely some good uses for sniping in some strategies, but it's definitely not the focus of the game, and making it easier for people to sit around and pick people off is probably not a good idea now that I think about it more.  I get frustrated enough by good snipers now.

hey, I snipe, and I dont camp! my montage can back me up :P
Snipers have a secondary weapon if not a sidearm so use those when running around.
When I get past a point where i know people camp or show up, ill toss a few shots and move on.
Camping has never improved my scores and running around with ur sniper makes ur aim twice as good than when ur camping cause then you need to deal with close combat situations you will also find in scrims

true. but sumtimes ppl just like to camp for a min or two just to get a few kills. Its not like nobody would know where that spot is.

Don't knock the camp and going prone. For TDM and FFA camping and going prone really has no use. But for capture and hold, camping has lots of uses in a game mode like that, mainly defending what your holding. But there is also that occasion when you can find a bottle neck in a map where people have to pass through with no alternate route and you get a nice little mg and camp that bad boy giving your team a chance to get a good defense set up, etc, etc. Sniping and going prone in a mode like capture and hold has immense benefits and set up some really sweet sniper battles as a sniper find him/her self a nice little spot to defend a flag to the point where the only way to remove the sniper is either with a lucky shot or with another sniper(and the battle rages on). They have their uses, just not in TDM or any other death match.

EWWW after hearing some news, and reading up on it, they have added a jump training mode. now this might be good for people that are new, but i just think learning it urself is a good experience. :-\

I know someone made a glock for the new urban terror, Im pretty sure it wont be in the next urban terror. But there are plans to have a new sidearm, most likely it wont be used, but hey we gots teh p90

I was talking about this earlier with some of you guys on vent... so I got around to doing some playing with the new proposed game engine that 27 is working on. Thought you guys might be interested. Water has always looked fail in UrT... so this is a HUGE improvement. DoF implementation is iffy... as is bloom implementation... but we'll see. As far as I know the engine is only for beta testing... so it could be changed if 4.2 ever comes out. I've heard rumors of changes to the sniper rifles, the shot gun and the addition of at least one new grenade (probably putting the flashbang back in). We know from their site that the P90 has been built. Now... bets on when / if it will come out? lol

All the shots were taken on winxp if it matters.

Here are a couple more so you can see what happens when things fall in the water as well as an example of the DoF effect when you move the crosshair from a distant object to a closer one without actually moving.

I zoned on the link for this thread heh. Here's the link to the discussion forums where it's talked about, right at the top is a link for the game engine. you can just throw it in the folder with your normal UrT along side the old one and they'll be fine. Small download, no need to reinstall.

I'm glad they're finally adding some better visual cues for actions and enhanced ability to use cover... now map designers are gonna have to get on the ball and make their maps better to take advantage of the subtle differences in height while crouching and reloading. It would probably be odd... but I'd love to see a corner pop-out move... similar to MGS.... pop out and fire then pop back heh. But I'm more about stealth and ninja'ing than tanking.

lol IMO all the guns are good in the way they are, pgs1 may inflict 97% on ya, but if u cant heal on time (like noobs) I would recommend you a kevlar. Thats so great about urt, theres always something that can prevent another thing.

That's kind of the point.

The sniper rifles ARE being changed in this version according to what I have read. In particular the unscoping is being tweaked to be more hit location dependent... so like... a leg hit shouldn't unscope the SR-8 anymore I believe. We'll see.

Yeah, the movement looks awkward at certain points.  Overall I'd say that so far it's an improvement over the old animations, especially the crouching one.

I think we're getting the new shotgun. It looks like the M10 in Modern Warfare 2.  And I think we're getting a P90. That's all I know. I'm not completely sure though, but I remember reading it from somewhere..Could be wrong..

I've already registered yesterday. I guess it is like registering your nick, and a knockoff of MSN passport which failed.

Although I have no idea why they chose a Glock 19, why would anyone in modern warefare carry a subcompact when they can just carry a full frame, like the Glock 17? Pilots don't carry their glocks concealed, so I have no idea why they chose the 19. The 17 feels much more secure.

And again, why another 9x19 parabellum pistol is another question, why two of them now? I'd much prefer some variety in my calibers of sidearms.  Since we already have the berretta, why not shoot for the .357 magnum in the Glock 21? Slightly disappointing...

There are a couple threads about this on the UrT forums... but here is the gist as I understand it.

UrT will now be a register service the same way that games like combat arms are... you get an account and that account is yours. So when you log into 4.2 you should have to put in that verified account details not just pick a name and a server randomly. Part of how that works with the anti-cheat is that they are tracking user accounts... so if you get banned it gets reported to your account (hopefully banning the user from making more accounts and just coming back with another name).

Your passport is also your access to the UrT forums... so it maintains an identity across game and forums.

We won't know until we have 4.2 in our grubby little hands... but that is basically what I understand... and would be most logical.

Not a failsafe, but certainly an improvement.

Yea, last I heard they were going to allow a certain number of names/aliases linked to a single account.  And I'd assume they'd have to work something out clan wise to deal with clan tags and people playing for multiple clans (happens all the time) and such.  It would suck if you can't wear a clan's tag because you ran out of names :P

LOL great, my IP changes the last octet or 2 every few weeks at school :P  But by the time 4.2 is actually out I'll graduate :P

I like a lot of the changes and they say sys requirements will stay the same.. Yet I'm still worried about fps drop, a worse connection, something wrong with passport (my ip changes every time I connect) and I just rly hope this turns out to be something we rly do like.

If you had to deal with all the aliased VeX guys as an admin you'd hate aliasing too :P  I rarely do it much anymore.  So glad Ramb and MaJ put together the wTf player db and gave admins access to the player info... makes life a little easier :)

The whole passport thing is a bummer in most cases.

It's cool that it is an anti-cheat system, but we are gonna get buzzed for aliasing. We all love to do it.

If you had to deal with all the aliased VeX guys as an admin you'd hate aliasing too :P  I rarely do it much anymore.  So glad Ramb and MaJ put together the wTf player db and gave admins access to the player info... makes life a little easier :)

bahahahaahahhaha glad to keep the UAA busy ;)
