Title: Cope57's Wallpapers
Post by: Cope57[1up] on November 05, 2012, 12:42:13 AM

Trying something different with GIMP, and the results were different indeed.
I did not follow any tutorials, but I am happy with the results though.

OK, I decided to change the name of this thread so I do not need to create a new thread for every wallpaper I make.  On that note, here is another one.

I am uploading my next twelve wallpapers right now.  Here is the first one, as for the rest, it would be easier to check on my gallery in the next hour to see the twelve uploaded.

Nice cope. Very artistic :)
I was actually going for something with holiday colors, and somewhat artistic without doing the red & green only.  I was also trying for something like a Windows Aurora, which is popular with Longhorn/Vista, 7 and 8.

Edit:  Check out Customize.org (http://customize.org/) or WinCustomize (http://www.wincustomize.com) to really make your Windows operating system to your liking.
Here is my last litestep theme I used for my XP.  It is called Black Velvet (http://www.wincustomize.com/explore/litestep/410/), but I used my own created wallpapers.

Here are a couple of candy cane patterns you can use as you wish. Included are the two images in .png format, the two patterns in .pat gimp format, and the example image.

Not exactly a wallpaper, but a splash for GIMP.  When one starts the GIMP application a splash screen appears.  I never keep the default splash screen and here is the latest one I made.

When you start GIMP, you see the splash-screen displaying short status messages while the program is loading all its components.

Of course, you can customize the splash-screen: Create a splashes directory in your in your personal GIMP folder (/home/user_name/.gimp-2.x on Linux, C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\.gimp-2.x\ on Windows).

Copy your image(s) into this splashes directory. On start, GIMP will read this directory and choose one of the images at random.

Make sure that your images aren't too small.

I included the GIMP .xcf splash if one wants to modify it to their liking.

As a digital content creator, designer and artist .... I have to say that you've got some natural talent there, Cope57. Very nice work indeed. In my last life I was the senior graphics designer for a major entertainment network. Then, my PTSD kicked into overdrive and everything changed. I still dabble in Photoshop, After Effects and Flash, but I just can't do it professionally anymore. Ah well, nothing ever stays static in this universe we live in.

Once again, very creative and well-rendered work. You should be proud of your creations for sure. ;)

Well anyhow, I decided to test my GIMP skills to recreate it.

Almost a year later, here is the result.

These?

I only created the bottom one using the original top image to start from, and it took about forty to fifty hours.  It was a couple hours a day after work, but when I was almost finished I ended up doing other projects.  I spent about thirty minutes on it last night after finding the uncompleted project.

I am glad I found it again.  I also found other images that I have created which I will release to the public on deviantART (http://cope57.deviantart.com/) that I have created and have forgotten.

I was recently asked to do a tutorial of Tectix Kitty Kat on deviantART (http://fav.me/d6ogvn5).  I kind of declined, but not really.  Here was the request, and my response.

Quote from: Nexu4
great work (http://e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/clap2.gif) can you make a tutorial how to do this in gimp? I often use gimp, but I don't know how this works... ^^

Quote from: Cope57
Thank you.
A tutorial with this image or one of your choosing?
Better yet, I will give you everything you need to make one exactly like this using the original image from Tectix at http://fav.me/d5g49sr
The cats name which I found out later is Pilchard.

The Kitty Kat, I used GMIC, which can be found here.
http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp.shtml (http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp.shtml)…

The filter used was called Rodilius inside GMIC / Artistic / Rodilius.

The settings I used for that particular image were 10 10 300 36 Light All.  There are many settings to use to change images.  I just experiment with them until I get an image I like. The same settings can not be used with all images, as images can be different colors, sizes and other aspects which could change the outcome of the final image.

Here is a good start for you to maximize your GIMP tools and scripts.
GIMP fx foundry can be found here.
http://gimpfx-foundry.sourceforge.net

I have been using GIMP for about 23 years.  Some images are just trial and error.  I have my GIMP settings to have an undo of about 70.  It may seem like a lot, but when one is trying so many different things to see what all the tools are capable of, and all the settings associated with it, one tends to undo many steps to start where it last looked good.

Here is many tutorials to get started.
http://share.xmarks.com/folder/bookmarks/t0C1tWQIHb
I know some are of Inkscape, and Photoshop, but I have attempted to recreate the same images created with those other applications with a good deal of success.

Good luck, and have some fun...

So, there you have it...  my not so good tutorial.

Title: Re: Cope57's Wallpapers
Post by: Cope57[1up] on January 19, 2014, 01:26:52 AM
I have decided to create a video of Kitty Kat.

Using sixty screen shots of the process and adding some music.
Each screen shot has a slight change to each image.  The first twenty images may look like not much is happening to the image, but the filters used can not be seen until the other forty layers were added.  A total of sixty layers created the fractal of the original image.  I proposed a simple tutorial to show how one can use scripts to make the entire process less painful, but I did all sixty layers without a script, and made a screen shot of each change until you see the final image.

Those that are new to GIMP or do not have enough patience to do this much work, just follow the simple tutorial which will allow one to create the same image in twenty minutes or less.  Otherwise, they can do what I did, which took about six hours to make.  Then another four hours to process all sixty shots into a video.

Enjoy.

I was asked to do a fractal of Darth Vader, so I looked around until I found a wallpaper I could use.  [ link (http://www.wallpapers2560x1600.com/games/darth-vader-1625/) ]
Here are three 2560x1600 wallpapers of Darth Vader.  The original, and two which I modified from the original.

Fractal modifications done using GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/).

24May2015 (http://fav.me/d8upy46)

Not much to say about this one.  I was just messing around with GIMP and decided to make another wallpaper.  I created it yesterday, but did not have a name for it, so the date of creation became the name.

2560x1600 so it should scale to any monitor nicely.

Seems that many do not see the works I do unless I point them to an external link.

Here (http://fav.me/dbjybuc) is the latest wallpaper created.
