Title: Mouse Settings
Post by: FedoraMike on October 13, 2009, 08:17:21 PM
Just curious what other people are using for mouse settings... learning some different things to tweak from other experienced players... This is always something I wondered about so I thought I start up a post...

For me currently:

Mouse Laser set at 2000 dpi
sensitivity 2.75 - still a little higher than I want it to be, would like to work it down to 2-2.5 hopefully - I know a lot of great players that play under 2 sensitivity
m_pitch .018 (.015 sets up/down sens to 2/3 of left/right good for headshots)

Just for fun, this is what I learned to play with for a long time
Laser at 2000 dpi
sensitivity between 8 and 9
m_pitch .022 (default)

Basically on urt i play with maximum sensitivity giving me more quickness to aim and jumps.

My sensitivity is about here:

lol if you want to know the number just bring down the console (~) and type sensitivity and hit enter, it will display yours and the default(5)... you can then set if by typing sensitivity 3 or whatever you want it to be.

Basically on urt i play with maximum sensitivity giving me more quickness to aim and jumps.

While max sens is nice for quick movement, it does hurt aim... for me learning to play with such high sensitivity meant that any little twitch on my mouse could throw my aim off by alot (especially mid to long distance) as a result I would find myself swinging my crosshair back and forth to each side of a player compensating instead of staying on the torso... the lower sensitivity takes getting used to but allows you to keep your mouse on target a bit easier...

m_pitch I'm still working on getting used to, but I think it may help me in the long run... really the best thing to do is tweak things see how they feel and go with what's comfortable...

hmm what is m_pitch? message me on xfire if you'd like.

m_pitch is a variable that sets the up/down sensitivity as a ratio of the total sensitivity... default is .022 which is a 1:1 ratio... so if your sensitivity is set to 3 and you set m_pitch to .015 it will make your up/down sensitivity 2/3 of the overall so it will be 2 while your left right remains 3... that's the simplest way to explain it... most people seem to believe that setting it with the 2/3 ratio or so makes it easier to get headshots...

Well when u play with max, u just move ur mouse in the direction u want and it does it quickly, but hey, it all depends on what sensitivity ur use too.

I use 1.0-1.5 usually, lower settings with a scoped weapon. I have an ancient optical mouse ( no laser ) so I'm am sure my DPI is terrible. This is weird because I was going to ask you this very same question last night Fedora when we were in Abbey, your aim seemed dead on, I wouldn't change a thing :)

I use a razer lachesis:

I set DPI on the fly  with 2 of the 9 buttons -

I set up a profile to customize the DPI switches to -- 800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1500

It will go between 200 and 4000.

I also have a custom polling rate set at 750Khz.

My in-game sens is set to 1.4 i think. I haven't checked.

I have been messing around with it lately, and I almost have it where I want it. The acceleration is a little bit too slow, but I am trying to find the balance between shooting accuracy, and being able to snap quickly for jumps. Overall in the last week, I have substantially improved my shooting stability.

I just have it pretty sensitive. Not All the way, but pretty damn close. Too lazy to check, nya.~ ;P

My sens is 4 but I have had it as low as 2.0 but wasn't very good for jumping so set it back up to 4 and works for me. My pitch and yaw are more than likely set at default as I haven't bothered to change them.  Mouse is a POS Logitech optical mouse (getting a razer mouse soon tho haven't decided on which one I want yet) On a side note I personally don't think that it really matters all to much what your sens is at because after awhile you will get used to it and every game is different for example in Wolfenstein ET I have my pitch set up to something like 0.12 and my sens is 1.5 and it "feels" the same to me as the 4 does on urt maybe it's just me but it works that's all I can say.

bring down console (~) and type /sensitivity (number) or /m_pitch (number)  If you want to see what they're set at, hit enter without putting a number...

My pitch is .016, yaw is .024, sensitivity is 1.95 when not firing with an auto. When firing with an auto it changes to 1.8 so I can stay on target easier. For guns with a scope my sensitivity changes to 2.1. I guess I just got used to more input with a scope.

Personally, I use 0 mouseaccel, setpoint half sensitivity, m_pitch .015, fov 110, and a script to change my sens for diff weapons. Knife=4, main=3.5, clicking (shooting)=2, right click=fov 100, sens 1.5
=) I'll post my autoexec... I guess I'll make a thread for that... Later

i love the old mouses the laser mouses are harder for me to use they seem to freak out on me more (^_^) (i like my faces better then the stock ones that are here).

It's funny to see all you guys with high dpi mice.
I have a Logitech G500 (not the g5 the new one)
It is capable of 5700dpi (WHOA that's alot)
Guess how many I use?

I have my dpi set to: 400dpi(not 4000)
My Sensitivity is set : 3.3(in game)
Polling rate is set to: 1000hz

if you talk to pro players you will find that alot of them do not use over 800dpi, the reason being unless you have extreme hand control higher dpi is designed for quick movements, and lower dpi is better for more precision, it does take some getting used to as it takes larger hand movements. Though it seems to be a whole lot easier(and smoother) than when I had it set to a higher dpi.
It's worth a try if you have a high dpi mouse, to set it lower and see if it helps you as well.

Yeah, I recently upgraded to a Razer Mamba capable of over 5000 dpi, I have it set to 2000 still but my in game sens is around .5 now.  does about the same as lowering dpi and increasing sensitivity, but I'd rather have the hardware closer to max myself :)

I've played with setting it both ways and I find it to be a bit on the smoother side when set to a higher in game sens with a lower dpi, but always with a  1000hz polling rate. I used to play with around 1100dpi and .5 sens but I like it better the other way (personal preference)

Razer Lachesis
8 sense - If I remember correctly....
1000 draw
2000dpi
No mouse pad, all desk

uRt Sense 2.35-2.5
Stays the same for sr8 and auto's, better for playing fast and smooth. If ya drop your sense to snipe.. your doing it wrong.

EDIT:
Had to raise sensitivity a quite a bit to see if I could alleviate wrist pains. New settings are:

Windows sens 6/11, Enhance Pointer Precision OFF
Razer Imperator @ 400 DPI, 1000Hz
UrT sens 4.5, no accel

It feels almost twice as sensitive but I've gotten used to it very quickly.

venom there is no max. try typing /sensitivity 340589340958039485093485093485093485093 845034985093485459867308961234567899990 85678697
then attempt to aim straight.

m_pitch has to be in scale btw. the 3 values i know are .22 .18 .15 and .123 same for yaw.. but its weird to mess with. if the values dont fit they reset.

ive got a setup in my autoexec that changes my FOV to 90 and sensitivity to (2 or 3?) when im zoomed in and resets to 110 and 5 when i middle click (mouse3) and sens reduces to 3 when simply firing with no zoom. even without a scoped weapon right click is useful as you get a closer view =) (noticable) if you want, i have a bind in there so that if you hit leftarrow, your sensitivity doesnt turn down or change your fov or anything with mouse 1-3, which is good for jump maps or knife only and such. to turn back on, just autoexec, which i have bound to the "." key. (period)

autoexec attatched below pls give it a look

oh soo i jacked up my DPI so running around is .8 sens, shooting is .3, zoom is .2
maybe shame on me, but i have cl_mouseaccel at like .005

My mouse (optical) sits on a desk with a semi-reflective paint... not to mention that it's also a bit worn in the area where the mouse sits, so it randomly fails to respond and/or jerks me about suddenly.  To compensate, I just aim in the general direction of people wearing the opposite color and shoot like crazy. Fortunately, maps like Bottle and Dressing Room help me balance out my ratio ;)

Mouse accel zero
sensitivity two

Logitech g9x mouse - dpi 800

I don't really mess with the pitch or yaw anymore because the few times I tried changing them it didn't seem to do much of  anything in-game.

I did find when I first lowered my sensitivity it improved my accuracy quite a bit, and now I get a little motion sick if I increase the sensitivity.  :P

I don't have a problem jumping with low sensitivity, granted I'm not leet, but I can still beat Uberjumps in around 8 minutes. I did have to get a bigger mouse pad so I had enough room to use the mouse with sensitivity on 2.

Wow, I've changed a lot since I posted this :P

First, new mouse, replaced my logitech g3 with a razer mamba

Laser Still set at 2000 dpi (even though I can go as high as 5600)
Polling rate 1000 Hz
/sensitivity between .45 and .6 depending on feel, server, hits that day
same pitch setting

Yeah I definitely love it... it took a little while to get used to the new feel and the Razer eXactMat mouse pad but I definitely like it.  The buttons are a lot more sensitive then the Logitech was which took some getting used to (shooting random bullets just moving around :P)  It's also nice to have wireless with the option to plug it in wired when the battery is low.
