Folks,

RonaldLee and I have confirmed seats for Quakecon 2011. The event is August 4-7 (Thur-Sun) in Dallas, TX. Any 1up members and friends of 1up are welcome to attend (Ron and I are sitting in Section C). The event is FREE to attend, but you have to pay for hotels, food, getting there, etc.

If you don't know what Quakecon is, you should probably get psychiatric help, and then keep reading. Quakecon is the largest Lanparty in North America, held every year in Dallas, TX (USA). The lanparty is put on by id software (the makers of Quake, for which the event is named, and thus, Quake 3, the engine behind Urban Terror). It started in the late 90's.



The BYOC area (Bring your own computer) is where the lanparty is at, and usually there are 3-7 thousand computers in there. People play whatever the popular games are (not just Quake, a common misconception). I'll be playing Urban Terror there as usual, but also games like Duke Nukem Forever, COD4, CSS, BF2, TF2, etc, as well as QuakeLive.



If you are under 18, you may attend, but must have your parents sign a waiver to get in. If you are under 13, you may only attend with a parent or guardian. People of all ages attend Quakecon.



The event lasts for 4-5 days, and the lanparty portion of it is 24/4. There are also workshops by the id software guys (like for mapping, etc), speeches by John Carmack, Tournaments (they give away cars and 100,000 cash prizes), console tournaments, rockband tournaments, etc. Vendors from all the gaming and computer companies setup booths there to show off the latest gear, as well as upcoming games.

If you go to Quakecon, you will meet the id software team, famous gamers (like fatality). People attend from all over the world, and Quakecon is also a common place for clans to meet each other for the first time.

Looks like fun.  Pyrite, have you ever ridden the Party Elevator?

Unfortunately, between work and moving into our new house, this year is a no-go for me.  Bourbon and I want to go next year though.  I think that'll be our big summer vacation.

Sounds like great fun but I'm in australia, flights are expensive and
I have no job, maybe in a few years, mate if TF2 is there I'm defiantly there, that game is sweet and I've been playing for ages now and it's free :)
