Post by: DarkAngel on January 22, 2011, 01:23:02 PM
I dont know anything about this forums and I do not know if there is a place for this message.

Ok, so I was checking threw my files of demos the in the last week, but I noticed I just had the turorial demo. I've taking a lot of demos, some from hackers, some from me beasting ;), and some from some jumping tutorials. No one has been abble to help me because they do not have the same problem as I do, but since this clan has had its up and downs from before when I have seen.

I thought maybe you guys could help me fix this problem.

Mac or Linux?

Linux:
~/.q3a/q3ut4/demos

On mac, it's something like:
Quote
To then get your demo ,open up and finder window ,then under places you should find a little house with your name or computers name click this ,Then click library ,then application support  ,quake 3 ,q3ut4 , then demo and thats it!

According to the UrT forums.

My guess its Flame's theory is my best result, because I just made a new demo on another server of all my luckyness. But still no sign of any of my demos.

try this:

goto: www.7zip.com (http://www.7zip.com) and download 7-zip
open 7-zip and lead i to your demos folder
you should see your demos, select them all and move them.

this could work for the future but idk you may wanna check the spoiler though :/

This topic is over 30 days old, so I'm assuming all is good, but I'm still curious. Was this resolved?

By default, Linux and Mac work with demos from two locations. They READ demo files (ie. play demos) from the q3ut4/demos sub-directory in the installation directory and READ/WRITE to the .q3ut4/demos directory in the user's home folder. This is to avoid write permissions issues for the user in question to the installation directory (just in case it's installed in a central place that only root/admin can modify).

It's a common security measure in Unix-like systems that's been around since the beginning of time. Windows, on the other hand, is a little less considerate of security needs. In Windows, the demos are written straight to the q3ut4/demos directory in the installation directory. So, say for example that you have this installed in C:\Program iles\UrbanTerror, you *may* run into issues writing demo files to that location if you are not logged in as an admin.

Personally, whenever I run from a Windows environment, I put the UrbanTerror directory somewhere like My Documents, just as Flame suggested, which is a directory you will have full write access to.
