Title: 1up application form not accepting Steam URL
Post by: koltar1237[1up] on January 03, 2014, 12:02:40 PM
The title pretty much says it all. I'm trying to apply to 1up, but the form doesn't think http://steamcommunity.com/id/koltar1237/ is a valid URL.

Halp!

Have you tried just putting this: "koltar1237"?

It doesn't seem to like that either.

It seems as though the steam community page is down for some reason. So maybe this is causing the problem.

It's back up now, at least for me.

Just read about this. Apparently Steam was DDOS attacked.

Must be the season for it as League of Legends, DOTA, and many other prominent sites were DDOS attacked recently too.

I just tried your name and it didn't have any complaints about it.

But yes it does rely on the Steam site being up for the bot that checks it, and I believe that was a reason for it.

I believe Pyrite used the code, I used on the AppBot for the Steam checking section and if so it works like this:

If user types in a Name/ID combine it into a link
If user types in a link use that as the link
Use the link and try to connect to page
if page is a Steam community page then you are good and verified
if not then it is rejected (It must of come to a 404 page I imagine)

Or post the app with the text "koltar1237", click in ''edit'', write the full link and save it.
I had the same problem but It worked for me when I applied.

This is weird. steamcommunity.com is up, my profile page is up, but the application form still doesn't like it.

My gamertag and custom URL name is koltar1237, but my Steam name is caelanburris. Could that be causing the problem?

Turns out the problem was the slash at the end of the URL: http://steamcommunity.com/id/koltar1237 works fine.

My application has been posted.

Indeed I am. Good catch!

I think Xmonad is written in Haskell, and you are a Linux user right? Something to think about contributing to :)

Well, these Dos attacks are against Steam, Dota, and League because someone named "PhantomL0rd" (World-Reknowned League Player/Youtuber) was being "aggravating." So... whoever had a personal vendetta against him, looked up whatever he played, and made it where he couldn't play for (x) amount of time.

I've used xmonad before -- it's actually one of the WMs on my FreeBSD box, and I had it on my laptop for some time. Useful when you need a seriously lightweight WM, but nowadays I mostly stick to XFCE. For some reason, GDM acts up when I log out of an xmonad session.

BSD... the next OS I will be switching to when Linux starts to get to popular.  :D

I miss Solaris when it was free...

I think Valve might be considering some work on BSD; their porting work to OS X (a BSD variant, as I'm sure you know) and Linux is a good stepping stone.

This is PhantomLord's Stream that has what happened to him, and why Steam/League's Servers were down, and out.
