ut4_mario1:

A small map. I did all the textures and wrote all the shaders except the water in the pipes (stock UrT) and the texture on the mushrooms. The sounds are from the SMB games.

Feel free to use the textures & shaders in your own maps, just give me a nod in the credits. Kappasecondus did the texture and model of the mushrooms used as jump-pads.

This'll be the last release of this map unless it has a horrible horrible bug. Onward to ut4_mario2!

My goal is to create a line similar to the terrorism# maps. I'm not expecting any map in particular to become a staple at this point (in UrT's lifespan). I just want to take a base of materials and work out some fun maps with that core of material. There isn't much I want to change in this _b2 before I reach a ut4_mario1.pk3-point.

And if none of my ut4_mario# maps are deemed worth playing I hope my textures and shaders get picked up by someone else :D

I'm partial to CTF. It's such a small map that you're going to have either very high scoring games or very low scoring games. I do think small (tiny) CTF maps are about as frantic, heart-pounding gameplay as you can get tho. If you care about your team. :D The Rambos among us probably don't appreciate them.

Unless someone big like 1up picks it up my hope is that people find it's a fun 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, very-small-game type map.

As you suggested, my fallback plan is definitely to connect the two pipes and provide a way to stay alive during the long journey between them. Before I was thinking of making them warp pipes like the two pipes in mid, leading to a separate area, which would in turn learn to flanking positions. I decided that was too much for the first map so I had these areas staked out for pipes but nowhere to run them to. That's why they dead-end.

(tbh, I thought it was pretty funny. You can almost make it to the end of the hallway in one breath... find out there's nothing there, and you're screwed. :D)

I definitely want to pursue the warp pipe as a yet-unrealized tactical device.

well the water pipes are funny... as in "ha ha, your gonna drown", funny.   :o

really like the textures, nice job.  also the jump pads and the timed stairs.. all very cool. 

you could probably stick 4-6 people on the map just like it is and have a blast.

maybe you could add some floating stairs that lead to like a floating castle where the princess is.  i dunno, just always seemed to be floating stairs and a princess in mario.  or maybe if you can get to the question marks and jump on them trigger a ground shake (like a grenade shake) over the whole map... that'd be cool. oh and you have to get some intro theme music going.  that could start a lawsuit though...nm.


i give it a thumbs up though.  great idea.

The jump pads could be smoother... glad you liked the stairs :D They were part of my first internal Make-Mario-Stuff map and I added them to this map kinda haphazardly.
you could probably stick 4-6 people on the map just like it is and have a blast.
Some of the most engaging games I have playing UrT are in the 4-6 people range. I understand that's a hard place to keep a server alive tho. :|

I haven't done much w/ platforms yet. I would love a good model/skin for one of those turtle shells w/ wings in the SMB series. THAT would make a great (moving, flying) platform. Otherwise I'd love an 8/16bit styled 'log' I could bunch together to make a platform. If you can suggest (or model, or draw) something from SMB I'd love to see what you've done.
