Title: Space Rukkus Response
Post by: AuXAuV on August 27, 2011, 12:40:47 AM
This is a shortened and sweetened version will briefly make clear what I find to be the greatest
flaws and fails of the map.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So overall, the map is a giant box. Also 2 rectangles you never see.
The map has nothing to do with space.
There are something like 4 textures, and 2000+ light entities.
Shaders are all fail.
'Custom' textures are all done in paint. It doesn't look good.
FPS for players will be around 20 due to lack of optimizations.
The kamikaze button fails. Teleporting to client 0 is not very cool.
Badly placed brushes, and architecture worthy of a box. Maybe even a small mine craft hut of dirt.
The jumps themselves, well... It feels rather like I'm playing a noob jump map, and I can do it without
my sprint key.
Creativity in jumps... Oh look, another 3 concurrent platform jumps!
Oh hey, I see you like wall jumps, too bad everything is slick.
Oh hey, I see you like having jumps consistent. Good news! This jump allows grabs, that identical one doesn't!
One can run on the roof of the main blue building. They will hit random caulking every now and then.

Harsh much?  :-\

Re: Jumps - The jumps might be harder with people pressing buttons, not fixating on looking at all the new sights and sounds.

Re: Load screen - I like it. The 1up mushroom isn't pixelated at all.

Re: The name - Create a map and name it whatever you want I guess.

Re: Kamikaze button - I personally like it. It's creative.

Re: THE REST - It's 1am and idgaf atm *sleep*

First of all Ruusan, this is a Beta, understand that.
If you suspect a perfect beta...well dont set your hopes so high :P
also Ruusan I heard alot of people complaining that the jumps were to hard.

I could care less if you like it or not, for you hate everything :P.

In all the map has 600 entities so no way it can have 2000 lights

Ruusan, Let me do, what I am gonna do.

Ruusan first of all Disprove/Approve time

-How is a player suspose to get onto that wall without lowered gravity, therefore not a problem
for all you know those are dust clouds in space.
Yes, I custom designed the skybox, why dont you try to make your own?
It takes you a while to comprehend a red metal surface is a button eh?
I like the name ruusan if you dont, well its our map, our name
the acid is not static it moves quite well (it is far away, might look like it though)
You found 1 giant colliding brush outside of a hallway a player cant get to.
Ruusan a Statue is not out of theme at all, its some detail I added
"FPS for players will be around 20 due to lack of optimizations." Me and Gautch run at 90-100 (Ron runs at ~80)

I understand it's an Alpha. I'm telling you what to fix. I'm harsh for this.

I don't want a perfect beta. I want something that is not a steaming pile.
Not much, is it? There was no attempts at anything. A long stream of randomly conjoined brushes.

Jumps too hard? Mainly because they want to go faster, and are constrained to looking straight on and walking,
or having no room to work with.

I don't hate anything. I don't love anything. I'm appalled at the map, and it needs weeks worth of work,
but it could become something presentable.

Also, the 2000 lights thing is a exaggeration to get the point across.
Why are you using light entities? Furthermore, the giant rainbow light entity room? The hell?
My eyes are strained off that.

I'll let you do what you're going to do, but I'll condemn you for making a bad map, and getting 1up
bad credit for making a map like that.

sure you can condemn me for making a bad map,but then you'll never be able to condemn me :D
if Ron doesnt want to put it on the server he doesnt have to.

Ruusan.... Flame hasn't mapped in a long time.  This was my first map.  You didn't need to be so harsh with this.  If Ron doesn't like it, he won't use it.

So this is you not hating anything?  Perhaps I can offer you some advice for the future.  Positive reinforcement instead of negative discouragement against the qualities of the map can go a long ways.  I can't say I feel very motivated right now, and I think I might be speaking for Flame on this one as well.

Oh no, I'm the self elected representative. I'm expressing the views of many people.
I'm also trying to urge you onto the path. Stop with the 90degree angled architecture,
look into curves. Also into shaders. A LOT into shaders.

Ruusan.... Flame hasn't mapped in a long time.  This was my first map.  You didn't need to be so harsh with this.  If Ron doesn't like it, he won't use it.

Sure, I can be all lovey dovey, goopy positive. It's not my nature, and it's hard enough putting on that mask for my parents.
There's a lot of work for the map, you guys should've just left it at the first area and worked on that, rather than the whole thing.

I haven't mapped since my laptop broke, and I can still make something better. That's just an excuse,
and if he forgets that quickly, perhaps he'll forget he's got this map?

If you're trying to steer us to the right path, maybe it would be wise not to do it so recklessly.  Wouldn't want that metaphorical car to crash, would you?

We all have to start somewhere.  I'm sorry that we aren't as good as you apparently claim to be.

You know, being cynical and sarcastic about everything isn't necessarily healthy.  No one wants you to put on a show.  What we do want, or at least what I want, is a decent level of respect.

Ron has already tested it before we public tested it

He stated 2 problems

1. Our Skybox was to big causing the user to render to much at one time
2. Lines to see to the void in some of our Corners

Other than that he said it looked good.

These mappers HAVE learned

BTW:

People who like the map VS. people who hate the map

1-0

I hardly see how this is unacceptable.  Even if it were, it's an easy fix, even though I don't see why each mushroom has to be a duplicate of each other.   Those mushrooms were custom made, and I think they look rather nice.

Also, Flame, thank you for taking the time to go through the map and highlight on its fortes.  It looks great! :D

I don't appreciate this.  If you don't like our map, please leave it to rest.  It serves no basis to expand upon any further, unless you have credible constructive criticism that might actually benefit the map.

Just a disclaimer: I'm not exactly being positive, but I am offering barrels of constructive [ harsh ] criticism.
I don't feel that Flame really tried with the map, and there are simply many MANY things to fix before
this is ready for another beta or alpha test.

Also Dougy you made me LOL with Spacco Dufus (its funny to say :P)

so far-Lynx likes it, Defcon likes it, Zhalix likes it, Ron likes it, and Ruusan doesnt.

that is 4/5 or .8 or 80% meaning it is a passing grade :P

The Above are the problems that you posted that I agree are messed up :P

For the Record Ruusan: I am not quiting this now, I am finishing it whether you like it or not.
