Post by: jabba on May 13, 2011, 01:20:15 AM
i always see pro people quickscoping with a sr8, but how do they do it? i would love to learn as all i can do successfully is hardscope and dragscope :/

Well you could take a little piece of CLEAR tape and put in over your crosshair and make a dot in the middle of your screen. This will help you learn where your crosshair will be when you scope in. Then it's just a matter of pressing mouse2 then mouse1 xD

Once you know where your crosshair is it's easy to judge where it's going to be when you scope in.

Also, map your keys!!! Mouse2 is arguably NOT the best bind.

(I use the key to the right of my move forward key >_>)

Practice fast reaction times, go on TDM servers, find a sniping spot, and try to shoot people right as they round the corner.

The quickscoping you just have to practice alot, it helps if you go on an sr8 only TS server, there's a few, and play on there for a few days, you'll improve.

Does the accuracy rating (I am pretty sure its 100%) of the sr8 drop when not scoping?  I feel like I have been right on top of someone and missed with a no scope. :-\

Go to FFA, and practice, and don't camp, get right up close and personal.

The sr8 when in noscope has a bigger spread than any other gun

I read a couple of your other posts, with you saying your good with the sr8.  So, I think we have all misunderstood your question.  When you say "quick scoping" do you mean zooming in fast and accurately, or firing and then swapping weapons to get off faster shots than the regular animation allows?

If it's the latter, the general premise is to fire the sr8 then swap to a weapon and before it comes up swap back.  I have little doubt this would be simpler to make a script/bind to do that on each fire.  The former seems to have been covered already but you may not know that you can bind a key to zoom in all the way (avoiding the first few steps).

Quick scoping is where you quickly zoom in and fire,
which means it has to be accurate.Knowing where your cross hair is (try playing without a cross hair for a while)
will greatly impact quick scopes. Also , having a good key mapping would help.

No.
To honestly practice sniping, join TDM's and CTF's. Dont rely on your pistol, find your sensitivity that you feel comfortable with. it also helps finding your POV. Having 90 will have a bigger chance of hitting at the cost of awareness and view. 110 is vice versa. You will get killed easily, but your skill will grow.

well, the cross hair is a few centimetres from the nozzle of the sr8 diagonally (as far as I know) if you focus that point or just consciously know where the crosshair is scope in and AS FAST AS POSSIBLE recognise your crosshair then shoot.. i dont know im a noob

lol i think you guys are all wrong though cuz i can zoom in and shoot pretty damn quick but the bullet doesnt go where the crosshair is, if you know what i mean

Then you zoom too fast.
It takes SOME time after the scope is zoomed in for it to get full accuracy.

What helped me with quickscoping is joining a huge map (Eagle) and trying to quickscope everyone that would come in my line of vision. It is over whelming but it worked for me. Practice, Practice, Practice!

When I'm sniping well it's because I'm not thinking about the shot.

On tdm you just see the opposite color and immediately try to either snap zoom fire or zoom snap fire. You will eventually master snapping directly on to them. This applies to quick scoping. It's all in practicing instant reaction.  Hard to explain by iPhone :p

I will somtimes try to look at how i do somthing on a game, Like say sniping so fast(not that i do)
Sometimes it messes me up! sometimes its better to let ur instincts take over and let them own

Yeah good sniping is more instinct or a subconscious reaction. Your conscious thought should be on your surroundings. :)

i thought ruusan uses esdf as his move keys so he has more bind options...whatever. point being ruusan has weird keys. i just use the default setup with q as zoom reset and f as bandage :P

I got really got at this (and then got really rusty) by playing on FFA with only a sr8... dont go on tdm or ctf to practice you dont get in close enough. And try to never use a pistol or secondary while practicing. I have never used a marker on my screen to tell me where my gun is and in the long run I dont think this will help unless it is always there (otherwise you would already know really well because of normal crosshairs on other weapons)
